http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13798275I thought this was probably rather relevant to most of us.

Nope. Not relevant to me. I've never had a hangover. Ever. Mwah ha ha. By the way, yes I have been very drunk, many times.

That'll be why then JV, if you're permanently drunk then you never will have a hangover.

Yep, same here. At worst, I feel a bit lethargic for a couple of hours. Hangovers are for lightweights.

I am a light drinker and would probably be considered a lightweight but I do not get hangovers. I probably drink enough to get drunk but not to get the hangover.

I meant lightweights in general. I'm not a beer monster - 8 pints will wipe me out - I just don't suffer the next day.

so the best thing to stop hangovers really is to drink 4 pints of water before bed or in me and my friends drunken state, see who can drink the most pints of water before needing to go to the toilet...

I find just one pint of water is hard enough, though I still manage to remember to try.

It's a good plan, as long as you're not really drunk. if you are, the er... muscle control isn't good enough, plus you're too far under asleep to wake up when you need to go to the loo. The results the next morning would be... unpleasant. I used to run a pub/hotel back in the dim & distant and sometimes after someone had had far too much and their mates would put them to bed in one of the rooms, things wouldn't go well and they'd end up getting a fairly steep cleaning bill through the post... One pint of water before you go to bed, have another on the bedside and drink it the moment you wake up. Just as good an effect and less.. likely to be messy. Jon

+1 for water by the bedside - just put it where you're not going to clout it in the middle of the night

Actually it's best to alternate between booze and water so you don't dehydrate yourself, drinking that much water will just make the body get rid of most of it so you won't see the benefit over sipping a pint and letting your body absorb it

Actually I'm curious. I drink whisky which is 10x stronger than beer. Isn't drinking beer equivalent to drinking 10 glasses of water between every whisky? Can your body somehow tell the difference between water and alcohol mixed outside the tummy to that mixed inside? I really can't see how that's scientifically possible.
