Just a quick question for anyone who's had a new bathroom in the last few years.
Roughly how much does it cost for a new bathroom? I'm talking strilling it back to bare brick walls and starting again from scratch.

We're thinking of getting a builder to fit a B&Q one, or maybe a fully designed one depending on the costs.

£1500 upwards.
Imagine a day or two to remove/replace the white goods and strip the tiles.
Tiles are anywhere from £5/square metre upwards. Cuts and fiddly bits take ages, but 4 corners a window and a door in your average bathroom should be done in three days. Flooring?
Anyway the bigger your tiles less time taken but more expensive to buy.
basic job up to a weeks work @£750 plus suite tiles and adhesive/grout @£750 plus

Here in West London I typically quote around £4k for a full bathroom refit - you can do it for less, but it's easy to spend a lot more. I'm just finishing one now that'll run to about £8k by the time we're done - lots of tiling, under-floor heating, total change of layout so all the pipework had to be re-run etc.. etc.. That's labour costs, doesn't include any of the sanitary ware or fittings you can see, but that's designed & installed, all plumbing and electrics certified. Typically a full refit takes about 10 working days, though the current one will be almost three weeks.

A local bathroom stockists/plumbers merchant should do you much better prices than B&Q, btw.

Yep. I'd agree. Last summer I had my bathroom stripped completely, retiled and a new suite put in and I suspect it cost me something between 1500 and 1800 quid.

I agree. We went for a mid-range bathroom last year.

We threw everything out, back to bear walls and floor. We then tiled floor and walls and put a moisture absorbing coating on the ceiling. New basin, cupboards and shower, plus a towel-warmer radiator.

The interesting thing was that the shower head and taps with chromed, square piping cost a grand, but the radiator was just over 100€.

we went for a fairly good set of tiles (Italian, large format) which cost a couple of grand.

If you go for the basics, it isn't too expensive. We went for mid to upper range, but without toilet or bath, just a walk-in shower area. That set us back nearly 10k, but we had friends who did the plumbing and tiling on the cheap.

I think we paid about £7200 but that included power shower, glass brick divider, new hot water tank and repositioning of it etc. So way more than a bathroom.

Cost us under £500 on a major bargain hunt but then I stripped out and replaced the bath, sink and toilet and the GF did the tiling and walls.

The worse part was cutting a single piece of padded 'posh' flooring to fit perfectly around everything.

If you have a couple of days spare it saves a lot of cash.

I've only done that once, very satisfying.

True.

Thinking about it it was more satisfying than fitting the bathroom just because it was so fiddly. :D

Well we've had a couple of places quote £5-6K to strip it back to the bricks, rearrange the plumbing and build a whole new bathroom from scratch.
Another has said between £6-8k and one £10-12k.
Obviously we've not looked at the £10k one, but the others we are thinking about.
