It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon here in Sunny Northamptonshire. The sky is blue, the plants are lush, the bees are busy and the birds are singing, and all around the merry sound of lawnmowers.
My dad was a strict atheist, but he had a rule about Sundays. It's a day when many people like to rest, so he never did any noisy jobs that would disturb their peace.
Personally, it was raining yesterday and my grass needs cutting so I'm "going outside" (shudder) in a minute to join my neighbours in this less than peaceful ritual.
How do you feel about it? Should people respect their neighbours claim to a peaceful Sunday afternoon?

Whenever it’s s sunny Sunday, other half says, “better cut the lawn”. Right now, the lawn is, fro me, looking at its best - there are daises and clover flowers dotted around. Mowing the lawn makes it look artificial. I’d leave it a few days. Thankfully, no one else seems to have got their mowers out today, so it’s been quite peaceful today so far.

I can't really say anything. I'm usually up at 6am on a sunday morn to wash the car. Takes at the very least 90 mins and involves the use of a pressure washer, which is the noisy bit. I'll also happily mow the lawn and do whatever else needs doing.
Having said that, I'm in an area that has a high population of ethnic minorities so dunno about their need for rest on the Sabbath. No one's complained yet and until no one does, I'll continue to wash the car.

Just another day of the week, and traditional Sundays are just being eroded by capitalism.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Having said all that, after 6pm on Sunday, I'm a lazy barsteward. It's that wind down time where I'll have a nice long hot bath, iron my clothes for the week whilst watching Antiques Roadshow. If I've done my socks and jocks, I'll pair them up. I won't do any other work. i'll even stop gaming early and watch TV until max 2200-2230, after which I'll read on my piephone and then fall asleep.
What happened to half-day Wednesdays? Why did we have them and why did they go?

Yes I do not think of it as a rest day since the supermarkets are still open.

One lawn down, one to go. Then it's onto hedge and tree pruning. On the bright side, I have one decent courgette which should do me a couple of meals. Chinese style tonight, and Indian tomorrow me thinks. Courgette pakora are fantastic

I haven't touched our mower in two years. My wife usually cuts the grass whilst I'm at work.

Still waiting to get the mower back... it decided to die, (or I killed it, depending on your perspective) last time I used it, and I'm in no rush for the brother in law to finish looking at it.
Not bothered about Sunday though, as I hate mowing and hedge cutting whatever the day.

That is what she tells you but she is secreting porking the gardener in exchange for grass cutting.

My parents have just emigrated an left me their rather excellent self drive four stroke lawnmower. Unfortunately, my lawn is too tiny to use it as well as being walled so I can't turn it round.

Zippy might want it; she just took over a massive paddock and is currently using a scythe! Although Dorset to The Midlands is a long drive on a mower
