So, the wife and I bought a Kindle the other day I quite like the idea of having multiple books on one device although I have encountered one problem so far - I fell asleep last night whilst reading and was abruptly woken when the device contacted my forehead. Not quite as forgiving as fluffy paper books

So what's your experience of the Kindle? Still using it as much as ever and any suggestions for a cracking read?

They just don't appeal to me TBH. Perhaps if I needed access to a number of Journals or the like but I'll be taking a couple of paperbacks with me on holiday, it gives me a break from looking at a screen.

I don’t like the page flickering. For me it’s too distracting. I think I’ll stick with paper until that refresh problem goes away.

I use the book reader on my iPad, but I find reading for any length of time from a screen like that tiring, so my iPad has mostly reference stuff rather than huge slabs of fiction.

I started using iBooks on iPhone while I was off work recently and have read one book. Found it very easy to use and like the bookmark feature. Have not paid for any books so reading the freebies. So far so good - no kindle experiences though but a lot of people have them on the trains. I think iPads are more popular as they can do more.

I have a kindle and really like it.

I've used it on holiday in the sun and whilst lying in bed (with the light on) and it has always been easy to read.

I've never had any eye strain or anything like that from it. I don't mind the flicker when changing the page as it still is quicker than I would be with a real book.

I've only ever seen them on the train. They actually look rather good; much more like printed paper than a normal screen and smaller than most paperbacks. If I read more books, I'd get one. As it is, I only read graphic novels so I'm waiting for proper full colour

I've used mine practically every day since I bought it last December.
Only had to charge it 2 or 3 times.

Brilliant for me as I load it with training material so I can study on the move (Microsoft study books weigh a fortune & aren't practical on the train or in bed etc).

Although I have smacked myself on the head with it as well after falling asleep with it. A nice padded case helps but still wakes you up.

I can see it being perfect for that.

I'm too nosy to use one on the move, I prefer people watching.

I think that a colour version will be very popular. I am would like to use them for software manuals etc.

Thing is then it will be no doubt more expensive, won't that be moving towards pad territory which can do a lot more than the Kindle?

Well It's a matter of nuance. The current Kindle is, what, £120? if they get the colour version in at £199 that would probably be OK. In fact, anything less than £300 probably wouldn't get it mixed in with the iPad market too much. Once over the £299 barrier though then yes, the iPad suddenly becomes an alternative, particularly given it has a Kindle app.

I think that it will be colour e-ink which will have a much longer battery life. Though the price point is going to be very important. If it were an Apple e-reader they could get away with a higher price. Every one else is a price taker, especially now in the current economy.

Very true. Mind you heading in the £200 direction that would take you towards Android tablets and the like, I presume they have kindle apps?
