Oh, for the love of...

I had fun with VR head sets in around 1989. Much as I like the idea in a “rose tinted spectacles” kind of way, I’m not convinced by the bulk or sheer idiocy of wearing these for any length of time.

New Idea?

This was from 1993. An episode of Murder She Wrote from nearly 20 years ago.

Nope. I'm on my mobile at the moment, so streaming video isn't really on.

1993 was the future. We're back in the past now :?

I actually have a pair of electronic 3D glasses from about that time. They came with one of my graphics cards and a demo game. They were awesome, but I think I used them for less than 10 minutes.

A friend of mine who is nearly blind has some real VR specs to watch TV with. She uses them every day, although mostly in 2D. Because the image is only 10mm from her eyes and crisply focused on her retina, she can see much more clearly even though they are only about 360x240 resolution! Her specs are also over 10 years old.

I am not that bothered about 3D at all. VR games could be a niche but will they catch on? If you need a £300 pair of VR glasses as a base kit then maybe not.

Mass produced the cost could go as low as £50. Seriously; it's just a couple of PLED screens and some plastic lenses. The screens are no different to those used in $5 mp4 players.

I never thought of that. Though wouldn't really small OLED screens be even better? They might be cheap enough and be able to offer very high quality graphics.

OLED, PLED, whatever - I mean cheap organic polymer LED displays. They'll need to be high resolution, but with large scale mass production they'll be cheap enough.
