I would just tell them honestly what you have said here.

They will probably take it back for a refund. It may not be a full refund (i.e. for clean up/maintenance/checking etc...)

I'm sure they will be willing to help though.

had a plan to say I should of bought their foldup bike which I Wanted originally and say I wanted the £500 one but I would say that I made wrong choice so take this one back, refund then get back to them in few weeks to buy the more expensive one but never turn up, as it will be awkward just returning it by itself

If you do that they will know you're just making up a story to get a refund. If you just come clean and say you bought it on impulse and have decided that you don't need it they will be more understanding and more likely to refund it for you.

Why make it more complicated than it already is? Why do you need the money back if you're coming down next week to buy a more expensive bike? They could just give you a credit note until then so that you don't have to mess around with the cash and the refund etc... etc...

Besides, if you make up some convoluted story about buying another bike from them in a few weeks blah blah blah they will know that you're lying anyway.

Jeez I don't know, what about learning to live with your mistake and keep it?

You may end up using it but not just know that yet.

They don't have to give a refund if all that's happened is you've changed your mind. They are more likely to give you a voucher to use in store for the amount of the bike. However, complain long and hard enough and they will just pour money into your hand to make you go away, especially if there are other customers in the shop.

Legally speaking, in this situation there's no provision for buyer's remorse.
