I've decided to change my gas and electric provider after Scottish Power's horrendous over-estimation of my gas usage. Having had a look on the price comparison websites, the whole thing is a complete mindf**k.
Do I go for the cheapest npower sign online 23 and take my chances with price changes or go to a fixed tariff? Has anyone had any problems with changing suppliers or anything like that?
Thanks

I havn't hada problem with switching personally, and i heard on the radio that there was still a good fixed rate from one of the big companies. if you know your usaege and use uswitch to work it out should find it. My gut feeling is go fixed if it looks cheaper or equal now, prices unlikely to fall.

NPower haven't put their prices up recently have they? I'd fix it before they do. We did (moved from Npower when our Sign online17 expired to Eon FixedPrice5) just before Eon's prices went up. When the prices went up, the price saving on the nornal taffif compared to fixed was wiped out in one go. Plus we're now safe from any future price rises until June 2013. More price rises will come. As the global economy picks up, demand will increase and prices will rise even further. Have you tried looking at Uswitch? I looked for prices on there. I can't remember if I used them to switch, or if I went on Eon's own website. Either way I had no problems at all.
Your bills should show your annual gas and electricity consumption. That will help you use Uswitch and your new provider estimate your correct usage.
I can't wait for smart meters that give them accurate readings.
