http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7773974.stm I answered them all correctly, but I have to say the last one was more of an educated guess. I know for a fact, there are several people in this building who would struggle with most of it. |

14/15 but I have to be honest, I couldn't get my head around the 'break the code' one at all. I have a horrible feeling I've missed something obvious. |

I got 14 out of 15 just because I had to guess the last sequence one and got it wrong. I hate that type of sequence question as it isn't a sequence it is two sequence interlaced. Jon, for the code one you are given 4 words and shown 3 of them after they have been encrypted into code. You have to work out which three words were encrypted and use that to determine which numbers relate to which letters. Then using that key you can encrypt the words in each question and work out what the cypher should be. |

Passed, 15/15. timer said 4 mins 11, not sure if it counted up or down. Was always good at this sort of thing though. It's more like an IQ test with emphasis on letters/literacy and numbers/numeracy. Did OK at IQ tests too, and the picture type ones as well (missing parts, rotations and reflections etc) Don't know how much they relate to the real world. Did pass the 11+ BTW, and my parents were told it was a waste of a place. Went to grammer school, sixth form and uni. Did OK |

Yeah, I understood the task I just couldn't figure out how the ecrytpion worked. It's obviously not a simple substitution cypher and I was having one of those 'maybe I'll see it if I stare at it really hard' kind of moments with it. That question seemed rather more challenging than any of the other ones in the test to be honest. Jon |

It's a lot more simple than I think you are thinking. Each digit 1 to 9 represents one letter. by looking at the first and last digits of each number and comparing with the first and last letters of the workds you can work out which three words are used. Then a little more interogation you can work out which word is which 4 digit number. |

10 out of 15 with a min to go my dad (maths degree and is 55) got 8. I mainly did bad on the letters part and the harder sequence part. |
