Anyone here regularly buy a paper? I only really ever bought them if there was a particular article I wanted to read, or a decent Sunday gift. Anyway, I'll never give Murdoch money ever again, that much is certain...

I'm not so certain that we'll really lose much in terms of crusading journalism, but I do wonder if it'll lessen the impact of something like the MPs' expenses etc. You only have to look at the interest a single newspaper in an office can generate with one headline :)

Thoughts?

Usually just one on Saturday, you can get 24 hour fiction, sorry, 'news' whenever you want.

When I were a lad, my parents bought the Dail Mail or The Times (political standing wasn't a prominent feature in our household; whichever was the "nicest"/"best" paper was bought). The Sunday Times was awesome, mainly because of the Funday Times supplement which I loved.

When I went to uni, I bought the Sunday Times, mainly because it was a broadsheet and had lots of supplemental papers. Meant I could read the entire thing (or at least the bits I liked) during the week, in small quantities. I would later use the teletext news section on ITV for my news, because it was "fun" and usually when bored eg having to wait for someone/wait to go somewhere.

Since I started working, I haven't had time to buy a newspaper. On top of this, broadband has meant it's easier to read news online. Hence I used to read the BBC news and Times websites online. The latter went behind a paywall, which I doubt I'd ever pay for; the former just seems more sensational and with more SPAG errors.

I'll now either watch the BBC news channel, occasionally catch the Channel 4 evening news or use the BBC website (and occasionally the freeview equivalent of Ceefax). I don't use Google News unless I'm seaching for an article.

I don't generally read a paper. Mainly because I don't have the time. I generally only have time during my commute, so I listen to podcasts or news radio in the car.

I bought the Sunday times today because we're moving and I needed paper for packing and to clear out the ash from the fireplace. It was the biggest one, so I bought it. Didn't even read it before tearing it up.

I still buy the local rag most days.

I get a free paper through the door. Never read it, but it's good for packing / cleaning your shoes on / miscellaneous mucky jobs.

I've never bought a paper but I used to subscribe to several magazines. I've cancelled them one by one over the years, and now I get all my news on-line. Oh, and I don't pay for it.

The only "exclusives" you see in the papers are meaningless celebrity gossip which anyone who gives a hoot will have heard about anyway, so what's the point? I have a smart phone - if I'm bored I can read the news on that rather than paying for something that was printed yesterday and having to carry it with me.

I've go to say that sitting in a quiet place with a coffee and a paper is one of the highlights of the day if I'm working, I really love reading a good paper, almost as much as I hate reading a bad one...

I personally wouldn't class Private Eye as a newspaper really.
I buy news papers occasionally. Usually The Independent or 'i', which I believe is actually the same thing more or less.

I buy the Grauniad, the Indy has gone downhill in recent years. I don't buy The Times on account of who owns it.
