I have Talking Heads' Road to Nowhere as my earworm now.

As you know, the M25 starts at Dartford and orbits London until Thurrock. The two ends are joined by the A282. So it’s not really going “nowhere”.

Ah, yes, I know that. Many's the time, though, that I have sat in a tailback at the Dartford Crossing, going nowhere.

I always think of the M25 when I hear the song "Road to Hell" Can remember first driving on it when it had been finished and before it got over-crowded. Great fun late evening and no speed cameras

Unsurprising as the song was inspired by and written on the m25!

Or the lyrics from another Chris Rea song".........Top to toe in tailbacks Oh, I got red lights all around........" I always thought it was older than 25. I can't ever remember it not being there. Or maybe the bits I can remember are older than that and it's the whole thing we're talking about.

It's 25 years since the whole thing was finally joined up. The project had been under construction since the late 1970s.
My first proper job was in the drawing office of one of the civil engineers working on the sections through Surrey up to the M4, and that was in 1981.

You may all want to say negative things about the M25 but there's plenty of times it's got me where I want to go quickly and efficiently.
Happy birthday M25!

I'm just glad they've got rid of the 50mph average speed cameras on the bit I use. Now if only they can get rid of those cameras between j10 and j13 on the M1.
