From what I gather on Twitter, it only works if you use US English.

Yes, seen the same thing.

Also, it will only do searches for local shops/restaurants/movies/etc... if you are in the US.

According to CNet, Apple haven't got an agreed supplier in the UK for all sort of info that the US get piped to them via Yell.

Its not like they didnt know anything about the service. To go to market without an agreed supplier is just stupid. Its Homer-esque!

True, but it's not as if the feature is rendered entirely unusable, it's just lacking a facet that the US has.

You'll know they've localised it properly if you tell it 'find me a hooker' and it responds 'here are some rugby clubs near you...'
