A night of drinking should be followed by two or three alcohol-free days, doctors have advised.

*Awaits Bratty* ;)

Thoughts? It wouldn't even have affected me much when I was a 'proper' drinker, as opposed to the 'once a month, maybe' drinker I am currently...

What happens if a typical night's drinking lasts from Friday to Wednesday?

Advice like that will have no effect on those who drink the most.

21 units a week already sounds like such a small amount to heavy drinkers. It's only one pint of vodka. You could down that in one just to warm up before hitting the town!

Pah. I only drink once a month at best, and even then I don't drink that much.

The problem is alcohol. Imagine if it were paracetamol and it might show the damage. Drinking lots of alcohol is like taking lots of paracetamol. If you take no more than the recommended amount, you're safe. If you exceed this, you'll cause damage. Give it time, and the liver will heal and regenerate. If you don't, you cause more and more damage. If you take too much in one go, or more than the recommended amount but frequently, you keep hitting the liver again and again before it has a chance to repair itself. You then reach a point where it doesn't matter what you do, the liver can't repair itself and you die.

A lunchtime bottle of Becks, is sometimes the only way to avoid a day long hangover for me. in addition to plenty of food and water of course.

I used to drink most nights, nowadays it's maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Don't miss waking up thinking 'ok, what the feck did I do, come on brain did I do anything hugely embarrassing?'

Just need to figure out WHICH week I need to not drink those 3 days ;)

That said I rarely drink that much, had 3 units over the weekend and that is more than usual

I'm out with my dad and little bruv for a few pints tomorrow, probably followed by drinks at my parent's house. That will be the first time this month I've had more than a single drink in one sitting.

+1

I had a bottle of Krumbacher last night, that was the first beer I've had in over a month.
