Quote:
Mad Max director George Miller has confirmed that production on the fourth film has moved out of Australia due to heavy rain earlier this year.

Fury Road was due to be filmed in the isolated mining city of Broken Hill, but the rain changed its landscape.

"What was meant to be flat, red earth is now a flower garden," Miller told BBC News.

He added the movie, which will star Tom Hardy in the lead role, would begin filming in Namibia next year instead.

"There were unprecedented rains in the centre of Australia," Miller said.

"And the great salt lakes which you can drive across are now full of pelicans and fish."

I love the "unprecedented" comment.

I'm sure it's happened plenty of times over several millions of years. It's just unprecedented since the white man arrived.

I'm not. Everything has to happen for the first time some time. Why can't it be this time?

Where did the salt flats come from? They must have been saline standing water at some point. All the flower seeds lay dormant for some time, too, but can't all have blown in from outside or been dropped by passing birds.

Deserts blooming are not unknown. It's just it's happened in a place that hasn't had a recorded blooming in a relatively short geological timespace (of the order of 200 years or so, at a guess). I bet the local natives can recall a time when their forefathers fished in the lakes...

A fresh water lake is more likely inland, the salts are washed out of the mud and rock, with a water saturation point at ground level.

Yep. Salt flats are a good indication that there was once a lot of water there...

And no Mel? I really hate it when they take a series and then replace the lead actor with somebody else, it is never the same. Why don't they just let it die off and come up with a new idea?

Because this is Hollywood, they don't do 'new ideas' any more.

All they want to do is sure up trademarks and other legal stuff which is likely to expire. We are seeing this more and more, and I don’t think it’s going to stop happening.
