I have seen FAR worse From a project we took over managing and maintaining their current system a previous dev had: "// <INITIALS>: Find out if we ever use this and remove/replace, truely horrible code" The code was almost core to the system functionality ![]() |

It rather depends on the software. There's quite a lot of "sh1t goes here" because my Lorem Ipsum isn't that hot, and "feature not yet implemented" in my software. However, none of this has reached release stage yet - it's mostly in-house stuff or very early pre-alpha. It's all unfit for general release and likely to stay that way, because the requirement usually changes before it's ever ready ![]() |

A recent client complained that all of her copy text was missing from the wireframe and was replaced with Lorem Ipsum..... This same client took 2 full days of meetings with myself, the project manager and a director to go over the front of the site.... which is essentially a dozen managed pages and a sign up process & member area... |

I think we’ve all been there. I worked on a recruiting site once for a large company, and because we had no example data to go on (despite asking for a sample), we made some up. In one field, we had to list benefits onto of any renumeration the post offered, so we put in things like toothpaste, free company yacht, stuff like that. It was just stuff for us to see what records were returned to test searches etc.. Anyway,m client asked to see what we had, so we told them that were were using dummy data that we had made up. Apparently (and I didn’t take the call on this), they saw the “company yacht” entry and got paranoid about it. Apparently none of their jobs would include such a thing, and we had to remove it quickly. Remember: dummy data for our use only, on servers that were not publicly available, and they knew that. |

![]() Real programmers set the universal constants at the start such that the universe evolves to contain the disk with the data they want. |
