The pulsing light isn't "still".

The same goes for shooting a photon through a cola bottle.

The downside of the method is that the image is built up from separately captured 1D lines, so the object cannot be moving. It's quite a cunning adaptation of the standard streak camera, more often used for dynamic spectroscopy.
