So I've finally decided to go the way of the laptop - but the question now is - to buy now or wait for post-Christmas sales? Does it make much difference these days?

Seems a lot of places are having pre-xmas sales. I'd always grab a bargain when it comes along personally.

I have to admit I did buy a Kenwood chef because they were 50% off (which amounts to a couple of hundred quid) this week. If they're at a discount I think I'd buy now but if they're not, what's the harm in waiting a couple of weeks?

Yes - this "decade" its coming home to find the courier has

- Left your £1000 PC on the door step in the rain
- Dropped it into a bin full of rubbish
- Handed it to a neighbour and then not left you a note that they have done it
- Managed to attempt to deliver it in the 4.5s that you were not looking out of the front window and returned it to a depot 40 miles away from where you live that is open to the public between 07.00 and 07.05 on the third thursday of the month!
;)

How to buy stuff: find what you want then find the cheapest price + packing in the world for it.

It's not rocket surgery, the more effort you put into searching the less you'll spend, and there's not a chance that a Curry's sale is going to match it.

I think Yodel have replaced HDNL. They're also now working for Amazon.

Disagree. Went to Currys a few weeks ago. Looked at sub-£150 DVD and blu-ray players for my sister. Checked the prices and all were the same or cheaper than Amazon prices. Ditto for electric toothbrushes. Similar story in Comet though not PC World, strangely.

Are you listing all the most expensive shops in the UK on purpose? Surely your Google skills are better than that. ;)

Nope, this was in-store, when I went to the retail park. Amazon were also the cheapest online for the things I looked for.

IIRC Yodel replaced DHL. HDNL are still out there ruining people's lives.

In terms of games at least, there's quite a few places that beat Amazon and Play these days, for example...

I've often had bargains by not necessarily buying from the cheapest outlet. Hunt around for limited time discount codes and use a cashback site and it can save you a fortune.
