Ok, so I am trying to book some flights out to Tokyo for May, but am totally baffled by the pricing, what is it with airlines. Some things just dont make sense!

For instance a single from Heathrow to Tokyo with virgin ~ £1100
A return with the same company/locations ~ £750

How is it possible to pay more to go one way!!! I even looked at the fare breakdown. They charge more fare for a single than a return! :x

Baffling things - similarly anyone on the london overground lines may have noticed, no matter how far you go on them, they still cost the same amount!

Whats the logic behind this... it hurts, head and pocket.

Talking of Virgin,
for you all yoofs out there. Virgin trains allows holders of railcards to take ANY trains for off-peak prices. Yup!

I find with trains it's often cheaper to buy two singles than it is to buy a return. I still think we should bring back British Rail so that we can have a national timetable, a national ticket policy and not have to charge more for not boarding a specific train because the cost of the ticket has be split between every train company which happens to run a train on that particular route, not to mention that we spend more as taxpayers now on the railways through revenue protection grants etc than we did when the government owned & ran the whole thing!!

Personally I like that the Underground is the same price no matter how far you go, it means the prices are easy for the public to remember & you don't need to worry about how much your journey might end up costing. Cardiff Bus charge the same for a single ticket no matter how far you go for much the same reason, or you can have unlimited travel throughout the city for just £3.20.

...and if you didn't like it, you could get an Oyster card and only pay a few pence for the shortest journeys you make.

I don't even live in London and I love my Oyster card; I never need to worry about being short of my fare & it charges me the lowest price for my journey. Marvellous.

They should make it compulsory on buses to speed things up a little.

I like that as well - especially as it is divided into zones so that you can choose where you are travelling within. But on the overground (see North City Line) you can pay the same for a 1 hour or 10 minute journey...

Back in the British Rail days, I often remember my mum buying a return because it was cheaper than a single, even if we only intended to travel one way.
