Been for the first of two appointments to have a crown fitted today.

They took all the measurements and stuff but also had to fit a filling to the adjacent tooth.

The anaesthetic is beginning to wear off now and it hurts like hell.

Even with the temp crown though the tooth feels a lot better than it did before.

Had a lump on the inside of my cheek - probably bit it at some point. Dentist prescribes antibiotics. Dentist goes on to try to convince me I need all four wisdom teeth out for a grand total of... well... a grand! "We could take two" he says, "but whilst we're in there we might as well (charge double) and take all four".

On a different visit I had a visual exam and all was clear. Had an Xray a week later and all was clear. Dentist then 'found something' after the xray and wanted to 'explore' with his drill. So his eyes are better than a) the exam the previous week and b) the sodding xray machine. Needless to say I've not had any problems with the tooth in question a year on. He also before doing my scale and polish mentioned several times how a private (i.e. expensive) scale and polish would be far better and is his recommendation.

[LIFTED] dentists

I went in for a check up and he said my teeth were fine and I needed an X Ray, I pointed out that he was clearly [LIFTED] and vowed never to go to him again :) He unfortunately took me for an idiot.

Well, just been back this morning to have the crown fitted.

It feels a LOT better than it has for a couple years!

Although for £315 it should do! (OUCH!)

Dental work should be free. As should opticians.

All manner of other things are free on the NHS, why not these?

How much?

Mine cost £204 as it's band 3 on the NHS

Not NHS.

Private.

My dentist is no longer an NHS dentist.

What sort of crown was yours? Just out of interest. Was it metal, porcelain, porcelain cap on metal, etc...

£315 not bad for a private crown!

I didn't think it was that expensive (for what it was) either.

I was expecting it to be closer to £500.

I am on a private plan thing though which means I pay £12 a month and that covers 2 check ups and 2 hygeinists a year plu sany minor procedures. I then get 15% of anything else.
