Does anyone know how many Therms in a cubic metre of gas?

We've used 100 on the meter this month and I just wondered how much that costs. Only started on the gas Jan 3rd so haven't had a bill yet, but I have a standing charge of 23p/day and 40p/unit.

Quote:
1 m3 of natural gas is about 35.3 ft3
The average heat content of natural gas is about 1030 Btu/ft3
1 therm is approximately 100,000 Btu
So 35.3 ft3 * 1030 Btu/ft3 * 1 therm/100,000 Btu = 0.36 therms

Hope that helps.

so.. it's about £21 then.

Thanks AlunD

thats assuming the Therm is the unit measure. Seems quite low.

My last 77 days bill is £3.55 per day.
200 imperial units or 6318.72 kWh

the unit is kWh

there are 29.31 kWh in 100000 btu or a therm
1 cubic metre of gas is 0.36 therms or 36000 btu

giving 10.55 kWh per cubic metre of gas

the unit rate is actually just over 4p/unit the daily charge just over 23p

so in 26 days we consumed 100 cubics of gas which is 0.23*26+(10.55*100*0.04)= £48.18

does that look right?

:D :D :D thanks for the pointers

just a bit of vat then. £50 certainly beats £120 on night storage. Break even in 5years.

It should say on your gas bill which units your metter uses (it should also give some indication on the meter itself).
Mine is in 100 ft^3 (each full unit is 100 cubic feet of gas), the conversion to kWh is printed on my gas bill so I can work it out.

Haven't had a bill yet, was just trying to find out how much we're spending :D ;)

the meter is marked as cubic metres.

I know both my gas and electricity bills are in kWh, but I've no idea what units are displayed on the meters in the house. The gas one is really old so it could be any old imperial unit. The electric one is only three years old, so I'm guessing metric. Both are being replaced with a smart meter next month.
Goodbye estimated bills.
