LMFAO Electro-Shock Therapy is "as good as anything we've got" for a lot of conditions. Not a big fan of it myself!! It's like "we tried to fix it but nothing worked, so we hit it with a really big hammer. Now it doesn't work at all, but at least the warning light has gone out."

LSD is non-toxic and non-addictive, I don't see the problem using it.

I haven't read the article, but LSD was used in the 60s for this sort of stuff. It's having a small renaissance in a few areas, including... http://www.maps.org/research/sewick.html

There are psychological issues beyond addictiveness and physiological toxicity. I would not be comfortable seeing LSD widely prescribed without a huge amount of caution. I have no statistics (Google didn't find many studies), but it would seem plausible that more alcoholics are pre-psychotic than non-alcoholics and thus susceptible to being "tipped over the edge". This may only be one in a thousand, but that could translate to very many cases if treatment became widespread. Of course, alcoholism can be so devastating that perhaps the risk is worth it.

I'd be amazed if it was used outside of an observed therapy session. I really can't see it being available over the counter at Boots, can you?

No. Not in my lifetime. Which makes it all rather academic.

I should've had put 'used medically' in that sentence. It's used outside all the time - just look at Glastonbury. This is also an interesting piece - http://www.susanblackmore.co.uk/journal ... SLSD06.htm

It only works because the LSD-induced pink elephant PWNS the alcohol pink elephant.

So do reduced working hours and better working conditions, fat chance of that with the Tories around. Thank god for the Working Time Directive.
