Just received a screeshot from a user to help explain the problem she is experiencing. It was attached to an email as an Excel file and when I open the Excel file is psted into one of the cells of the spreadsheet. The mind boggles. If she can paste it into a cell of a spreadsheet why can't she just paste it into an email? |

Funnily enough I was with an IT guy today who took a screenshot and pasted it into Excel and saved the document to a shared drive. To be fair the PC didn't have his mail client set up but I still thought Excel was a strange choice. He later emailed me the image, not the spreadsheet or even a JPEG, he turned it into a GIF and emailed me that. |

I get screenshots sent in word all the time so it is impossible to see clearly what is shown. This is despite me saying to highlight for example the window with the error message and use alt-print screen. Idiots. The other bugbear I have is with our web filter. If a site is blocked we ask for the whole of the block message copied and pasted as text so we can click on the link to analyse it plus we can see why it was blocked. But nooo, it has to come as a screenshot pasted into word We all have wide-screen monitors and word is portrait. ![]() Pasting an image into Excel is a new one for me. |

I get a similar thing. We have an email address people can send phishing email to, so we can block access to any website it may be sending victims to and block any further messages. We have detailed instructions on how to send us the message because the headers are important. Only about 1 in 10 people actually send us the headers. 90% just forward the phishing email to us, so while we can stop it working, we can't stop them coming. And then people complain they get too much spam. |

My boss is convinced that by pasting screenshots/images into Word it makes the combined file size smaller... Was it someone on here that new a department that pasted into PowerPoint? I think it's mainly because Windows screenshots (by default?) to the clipboard. If it went straight to a file, people would just attach the image file... |

I'm quietly pleased with myself now that most of the non-technical staff can handle screen-shots sensibly. If it's a small window, they copy and paste it directly into an email. It takes two taps of the keyboard and it looks professional. If it's a larger image, they know to use snipper to copy only the relevant part and then save it as a png file. The annoying thing is that I can't ask the technical people to stop converting huge screen shots into bloody jpeg files and pasting them into word. Not only is it unreadably small due to the contrary aspect ration, but jpeg is the worst possible choice because of the way it smudges and artifacts everything even if you can zoom in enough to start with... This often happens with speedtest.net results which even give you a blooming link to copy and paste, rather than an unreadably squished up 1080 screen shot... |

Now I feel like my last post in the Tuesday Game thread should've been an Excel file instead of a .png. |
