I think that would be an incredibly bad idea for the industry, but would you want to see films quicker in your own home?

I watch most films at home anyway cos the ratio of good to bad isn't what it used to be, but it strikes me the industry would be effectively taking away the mini-event nature of their product, making it even more generic

Maybe there should be a system where you're given a code on your cinema ticket to download a copy at home?
Perhaps fingerprint each copy with the person who downloaded it's details, the same way some music stores do as a deterrent to file sharing?

There are certainly films I wouldn't bother watching at the cinema, or films that no-one else except me wants to go see. In these cases, I'd rather watch it at home. Given the delay from cinema to dvd release, I'd be happier with this delay being shortened.

The problem arises from cost. It costs maybe £7 to watch a film at a cinema (not including parking and food). A DVD or blu-ray can cost from £10-20 depending on various things. How much would it cost to watch at home? I'd pay maybe £3-4 if it was a one-off. But what if my sister walks in and sits down and watches?

Not really viable IMO.

I honestly believe the future is day and date releasing, each film available in all formats simultaneously on one day. If you want to see it on the big screen / IMAX etc, go see it at the Cinema, you want to own a hard copy, buy the DVD, you want to watch it once, stream it etc.
Everyone is happy and the need for piracy all but disappears :D

I think the last film I saw at the cinema was Cloverfield so doesn't bother me either way. It makes sense to have a gap between cinematic, home & dvd release so the film companies have a chance to make some money. Of course if the film is a flop at the box office then usually bring the DVD release forward anyway. If I really do want to see a film I enjoy the anticipation of knowing I have to wait to see it.

I don't want to see the latest films pretty much at all.

The speed I don't see them at is irrelevant.

Surely the answer to the question posed is 'Visit your cinema.'

I don't really need so see films quicker on DVD (sales or rental), but it would be nice if Sky didn't hog all the films for years. You hardly ever see new films on the normal TV channels these days.

The whole point of going to the cinema is, well, going to the cinema. It is doing something together, which gets you out of the house; so, no, I don't want to see them quicker at home.

Personally I'd rather get out of the house and have a good meal. Not a great fan of cinema.

Great! I did a lot of dancing when I was young. Hope you're enjoying it. Good fun and a fab way to keep fit ;)

If I really want to say a film I'll see it in the cinema, and if I miss it then I'll probably wait until it's out on DVD and at a sensible price. I rarely pay as much as £5 for a film, as there's more than enough decent films that I haven't seen that I'm in no rush to see the latest and greatest when they're still at full whack.
