http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17838662 Always a bad move asking the audience to name your TV show, as evidenced here:
![]() ![]() ![]() I can’t see this working. I know, blinkered Brit protectionism, but it’s been problematic moving UK sitcoms to US soil. Where The Office succeeded (after some re-jigging), many have fallen by the wayside, including another John Sullivan penned story - Dear John. The BBC screened the US version, and scrapped it after showing two or three. It was just so, so poorly done. |

Dear John was pretty poor in the original British... I think Only Fools and Horses could make the basis of a successful US comedy, but it will have to be something totally different. Even if the beginnings are based on the exact same story, it'll need bringing up to date as well as into line with the US market. The original series wouldn't really fly in the UK now, it's only popular because we loved it so much all those years ago. Does anyone remember what happened with "Dangerous Women", the US remake of Cell Block H? I may be in a tiny minority on here, but I was a huge CBH fan back in the days before interwebs (partly due to the shifts I was working and the TV schedule!). The remake was truly bizarre because it kept the exact same story, but turned the most unglamorous downright filthy show ever made into something approaching Dallas. |
