I still have my A305, which I bought 25 years ago. It’s beeb upgraded to 2MB RAM, has a HD and extra things plugged into the podule backplane.

It still works, and later this month I’m having a VIDC mod fitted to it so it will work on modern monitors.

Last year, it wasn’t very well, but it got mended. A capacitor had blown.

I still miss programming my old A3010. BBC BASIC was a great language to learn in and back then I could throw together a useful and useable desktop application in a spare half hour. No compile time to worry about and I never managed to crash it due to an error. Even had a few programs published in Acorn User's *Info many moons ago.

I had a few mentions and bits in Acorn User - mostly in *Info or their loftily named Acorn Agora section.

There were a few times when the Macs at Uni failed dismally to do what I wanted, so I’d lug my Archimedes in and finish the job on that. The main problem was that the work was meant to be printed in colour, and I had no colour printer at home. The Macs (8MB RAM, with hard drives) choked on what I was doing. My 1MB floppy only Acorn machine seemed to cope fine. The person in charge of digital imaging hated me for it.

My school ran the product locator stand at the Acorn User Shows 1990 and 1991. I met Carol Vorderman there.

We had an A3000 at home. I miss not needing to wait for shutdown, just hit the off switch! 8-) Good old RISC OS 3.

I bought VirtualA5000 years ago from these guys http://www.virtualacorn.co.uk/
They don't do that version anymore but you do get a fully function Acorn emulator with a lot of software bundled in.
Elite is included.

They're having a sale on at the moment too. I may investigate dither. The RCEmu that I run is decidedly flaky.

However, RISC OS Open Ltd (ROOL) are apparently working on a version for the Raspberry Pi. That should cost nothing, but so far there is nothing to show for it.

I've got an a3000 in my shed. I bought it off eBay about five years ago and never even switched it on before putting it in storage. It lives with my zx spectrum, lcii, megadrive and nes. Given the burst pipe over the winter, I'd be surprised if any of them still work. Awful really.
