I've known about this process when I did my intercalated degree. It was a pain not to be able to access some papers for research purposes. Most frustratingly were the ones that were 20+ yrs old yet still wanted you to cough up £30 for a single paper. Since leaving med school, I have bugger all access to journals except BMJ which makes it a make to look for the research to keep my knowledge up to date.

Conpletely agree with making it open access but I feel making the researchers pay for it is OTT. They already have to pay to submit it.

The researchers don't get a penny when you buy a paper.
