Just had this posted on bookface and I'm very quiet at work. It's Tony Scott's birthday today - what's your favourite film? Mine's definitely True Romance. ![]() |

Say what?! Ridley's little bro!!! Tough one for me, I love True Romance as well. But Crimson Tide, Domino and Enemy of the State are all great. Last Boy Scout is enjoyable in a very 90s kinda way, but not in the same league. |

'Cop 2 might actually be my fave ![]() I've never understood Man on Fire's somewhat cult status, most of that film was just boring ![]() |

Spent a good half an hour at work today talking about cool crime/gangster movies of the 90s, and of course, True Romance came up. So I'll go with that because it is, in fact, brilliant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR8WjPEjpVg - probably NSFW. |

+1 Having seen many of those films, I can't say I'm very impressed either tbh. |

Is it the best film there? Yeah - probably. Is it my favourite. I don't think so... Man On Fire is superb. Chris Walken sees to that. But ultimately what makes most of these films at least good is Tony's eye. His pacing and shooting bring a "coolness" and an immediacy that very few other people can match in my opinion. Whilst to the untrained eye, it might just look like another Bruckheimer or Bay situation, it's really not. But I guess I'm a fan, so I see it. |

There's only one film there that's an undisputed classic of its genre, and that's Top Gun. ![]() |

I'm not sure 'gay navy men' is really a genre ![]() ![]() |

I've seen about half of those listed and despite not having a thing for gay navy porn, I enjoyed Top Gun, but not Days of thunder (top gun sans wings). Also enjoyed Crimson Tide (I like Washington and Hackman), True Romance, The Last Boy Scout (complete and utter bobbins, but I like it), Man on Fire (Washington again), Enemy of the state (Hackman again) and one or two others. No real favourites in there though. |

Top Gun is fun and just about the right level of sophistication for Tony Scott to handle (he's no Ridley, but he can glue together a decent film). A homoerotic aesthetic does not equate to "gay porn" - you wouldn't say Trinity in The Matrix was straight porn - is James Bond just "Hetero Spy Porn" - no, get over your homophobia and enjoy the film, it's meant to be entertaining ![]() |
