I think I'll wait to click on that when I get home.

That's the mummy-pr0n book that (almost all) the office girls are reading.

In curiosity I read about the first 30 pages of that (Fity shades of Grey that is, I don't know Jo Nesbo). My God. It strikes a pretty low bar as literature and, frankly, a not particularly higher one as p0rn. Plus overall I'm not sure it actually says anything positive about the people getting off on it to be honest with you. yeesh. Just don't waste your money.

From what I've seen of it, it's incredibly easy to read because it's so low-brow, and that might be key to it's success

I heard it doesn't properly kick off until page 150 lol. They were talking about it on the radio yesterday.

It's funny as there seems to be a very clear divide about those who like it and rave about it and those who are not bothered. It's a real marmite book. Last night someone was personally attacking me as I'd posted a piss taking link about it on Facebook and implying I was inferior in some way because I hadn't read it. Suffice to say I didn't rise to the bait

Indeed. Quantity does not mean quality.

150 pages of foreplay? No wonder it's proving popular with ladies but men don't understand it

I've read til chapter 15. It's UTTER SHASH!

But if I was at university doing a psychology degree or something, I would be fascinated to write a paper about the differences between what men and women are reading in this book. It's poorly written, spoon feeds you the plot and has the timeless Mills and Boon element of "girl meets slightly-of-her-comfort-zone, extremely masculine boy and proceeds to take the entire book to tame him so that he's still masculine and attractive retaining his bad boy essence, but no longer wild enough to still be an assehole, thereby becoming the perfect lover/boyfriend/adventure partner/future husband".

It really is a fascinating study in female psychology if you're inclined to view it that way. But yeah, as a book, it's fracking awful.

More importantly it is a reworked Twilight fanfic called master of the universe (can be read for free). Hence why the female characted (Bella) is such a wimpy, demeaning character.
I sadly think that it appeals to people who don't read very much and enjoy the "written like one speaks" tone of it.

It's really not saying much for the english speaking literature market

To be honest I'm actually thrilled to see so many negative reviews. It seems my gut instinct to avoid it is correct.

I'm not sure there's much of a revelation in 'lots of women have a fantasy about having raucous sex with a rogueishly handsome multi-millionaire'.

It might be the fact that they seem so interested in her being so submissive. When was the last time that went 'mainstream', 9 and a 1/2 Weeks?

Let put is this way.. do you think it would have sold as many copies if the plot was 'woman has unsatisfying sex with plain-looking man who sells insurance'?
I think the 'who' has much more influence than the 'what' frankly.
