Evening all,

On Sunday I will be flying to Trieste then getting a train to Venice for my first holiday in three years :D Going on a plance for the first time, and it'll be my first proper time abroad (when I went to Belgium I was mainly confined to the university we were staying at where everyone spoke English).
The only thing I'm currently apprehensive about at the moment is getting to the airport on time!

My main worry is my iPhone. Presumably I can use it on the plane in 'Airplane mode' ? Then when I get to my destination I should presumably turn off all forms of cellular data to not incur charges that way?

Anyway, looking forward to getting away :D

Yep. For added peace of mind, just leave the phone in Airplane Mode and turn on the wi-fi to use any free networks that's available to you while abroad.

Cool, I thought Airplane mode meant that everything else was off until you came out of Airplane mode, didn't know you could turn individual things back on.

Take your own food to eat&drink at the airport but dump it all before you go past the gates.

Just turn off data roaming in your settings then when you land take it out of airplane mode.

You may have to "turn it off"/put it away during take-off/landing.

You will have to. Enable airplane once boarded. Then turn it off when instructed to do so. You can switch it back on once the seatbelt sign has been switched off.

But honestly, that flight can't be more than a couple of hours. Can't you just be without it for that time?

In my experience, Italians are wonderful people for welcoming you to their country. I'm sure you'll have a great time :)

I use airplane mode when flying so I can still use it for games (but all wireless radios are turned off). After landing I turn off data roaming but leave the phone on for calls and texts.

If you leave it in Airplane Mode then just turn on the wi-fi then the wi-fi works and all other signal/data roaming stuff remains off.

If the handset is in Airplane Mode then there's no reason to actually switch it off, as there's no signal travelling either to or from the handset.

Having a personal Android phone and a work provided I phone, I absolutely love the I phone and would be beyond despair if I didnt have it.

Shouldn't be a problem within the European Union TBH...

Oh I'm jealous. I'd love to see Venice. Italy is probably my favouritist country. Last time I was there, it was at the expense of your licence fee - didn't have to touch my account once. :D

Watch out for the mosquitoes around Venice!
