I've been reading about the upcoming games consoles and I realised I've never bought one on it's day of release due to cost and a lack of good games, though I do pre-order certain games that are part of a series. And only recently have I pre-ordered BRs, simply because I'd already seen the films

Anyway, when do you find you have to have something on release day? Are you willing to queue for 'ages'?

I think I've only ever bough MW2/BLOPS/MW3 on the day. I'm not sure about MW2 - I may have had tk buy it a few days later because it was sold out. I recall driving to asda. I was on nightshifts during psychiatry which can either be dead quiet or incredibly busy and it happened to be dead quiet so I nipped out to the supermarket that was about a mile down the road.

I've preordered stuff like Arkham Ayslum, GTA4, etc. Anything else I've bought well after release to when the prices are cheap eg £25 instead of £45.

EDIT: just realised about consoles. I don't think I've ever bought anything on release day be it music, films, cinema, phones etc.

The only thing I can think of is a couple of GTA and Tenchu games. Oh and a drysuit that I got at a massive discount as soon as it was available in the UK.

God no.
Nothing's that important that it can't wait for me.

I do still buy music on its release day but I've reduced the amount of DVDs & games I buy release day a lot. The price of those drops so quickly it really is an unnecessary expense to do so. The only game I have ordered to arrive on release day is Borderlands 2, mainly because it's a pretty much purely online game which me & some friends will be playing through together.

Very, very, very rarely. Last thing was The Witcher 2 boxed edition thingamy and that was only because I had enough amazon vouchers to cover it.

Usually I'm a tight git and just wait unless I have vouchers to make it cheap.

To date I think there's only two things I've ever purchased as a brand new release; Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim. Nothing else has come even close to tempting tbh.

I pre order a lot of stuff.
eg. I've pre ordered the next series of House MD and series 8 of Bleach. In the past I've pre ordered Harry Potter books.
Can't say I've ever bought music on the day it was released.

I bought the PS3 on day of release (£400, ouch!). I also bought a Wii when it possible to get hold of one in my area.

The PS1 and PS2 were bought for me so I had to wait some time after release before getting one.

Otherwise I have a list of unplayed games so long that I wait for something to be in the Steam sale before purchasing.

Speaking of pre ordering.
The Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition is being released on the 18th. I'll have to get that.

From what I've seen of that I've been decidedly underwhelmed tbh, the screenshots look almost identical to the originals etc. and I'm not sure a couple of extra quests / team characters justifies the money.

Actually I did that for my Mum who is a big fan.

A total waste of time and money because by the time I got to deliver it to her it was all over the supermarket shelves for half the price I paid on-line!

I don't care. BG 2 plays fine with Windows 7, but even with tutu installed, BG just doesn't work right.
I'll buy it just to get a working copy of the original game at modern screen resolutions.
