I don't say this about The Onion often (ever) but this is genius.

Very nsfw if it's the one I'm thinking of!

Sadly, so much of the US news output could masquerade as an Onion item.

I suspect this is more to do with circulation. I would dare anyone to hold that image on a banner and walk through say India. Buddhists wouldn't be insulted because of their nature. But I'm willing to bet a few hardcore Hindus would take offence. As for Christians, show that pic in Alabama and see if you're still alive.

Yes, but the point is not that it doesn't cause offence, but how you choose to react to that feeling of being offended.

No one who would justify a fatwah is involved.

Actually, I'm lead to believe that pornography law in this country is so convoluted that it may technically be illegal. If you choose to say that the Hindu deity is a beast, then that's bestiality. Depiction of sexual acts with cartoon animals is illegal in some cases - you just need to convince a judge that someone finds it erotic.

I think you're possibly quite right. In fact, one of the acts depicted would probably qualify as 'Extreme' pornography, and that would land you in a considerable amount of hot water, apparently.

It needs to be depicted in an extreme and realistic way.

The above image is cartoonish and humorous. It's also saved by the context of appearing in a series of news articles covering satirical news reporting, and not other 'erotic' material.

This picture is educational, I never knew that Ganesha was a hermaphrodite.
