Do you bother or not?
In my case it's £715 with just standard 7yrs NCB and £755 with protection (or almost the price of a 67mm Hoya HD filter)...
What say you?

I'd say don't get the filter As for protected NCB I do get it but I'm never sure of the value of these things tbh

For £40 get it. In the past Protected NCB would add almost £200 to my premium so I never took it. This year is the first year where I did take it as it came as part of the premium.

How much confidence do you have in your driving ability?

Yes. First year I had PNCB I had to use it. Maybe since then you could argue I'd have been better off in the long run not having it, but it's a risk I don't want to take.

Well since they're robbing you blind based on the "risk" of something bad happening, it's all much of a muchness I figure. And Veato, you missed the other thread and you were outvoted, sorry

I started to protect mine once I'd reached 5 years. The issue isn't your driving ability but others'.
If you hit someone, your premium will go up. If someone hits you, your premium will go up (though not as much). If you have NCB, I believe the first incident is supposed to be "free" but subsequent ones will impact your premium. However, I don't trust them and reckon it'd go up anyway.

Is your NCB only protected with your current provider? I can't help but feel they'll only stiff you anyway come renewal time since you have to declare accidents/claims etc. Edit: Ah yes, seems I was right: http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/ap ... aims-bonus

I had protected NCB, as it cost next to nothing - over 20 years without a private claim. I had 3 accidents on company cars over the years, an average of around 350,000 miles between accidents and 2 of them weren't my fault (rear ended at 50mph in a traffic jam, for example).
Here in Germany, I don't get the option.

What about the number of uninsured drivers? Have one of them hit you and you are back to square one. For £40 it seems well worth it in those circumstances.

They stiff you either way. That's the game. But when you're compiling the kind of shopping list I am, sadly I have to err on the side of caution more often than not.

It's also based on your post code, which is another pile of bull to make them more money.
