Why are couples so mean to single people?

As someone who was in a relationship up until the beginning of this year but who has been happily single since, quite a lot of what he says does strike a chord, from both sides of the fence. And if you think it's all rubbish, read the article he links. My god...

I must admit, after 20 years living alone and now in a relationship, I've never experienced anything like that.

I'll follow on from this and say not only have I never experienced anything like that, your 'friends' would have to be quite inconsiderate to your feelings - even if 'only joking' - to be so bold/rude to ask you why you don't have a partner.
Sure, asking if there's anyone special would be fine, but being so rude as to not accept whatever you answer wouldn't cross the minds of the people I consider my friends.

I'll remember that line

Me and the gf have quite a few mutual friends but I don't think it's been an issue from what I can tell

Well you could always say the special person in your life is Megan Fox but you are being kept apart by the restraining order that has been imposed on you.

my dad used to make that kind of comment but I would never say that to anyone unless they mentioned it first.

I quite like the other example retort he gave

Quote:
"Why have you settled for him? Why are you stuck with her? Were you so afraid of being alone?"

I have used something similar with a girlfriend. I told her I had a thing for sheep, and would ask her to wear her sheepskin coat in bed and go "baaaa" for me.
