Quote:
At least eight years of training will be provided before launch, including simulated missions, practice in a restricted mobility environment, and lessons in electronics, equipment repair, basic and critical medical care. In 2016, the company plans to begin rocketing supplies to Mars, including spare parts, two rovers, and living units that can be assembled into a base once humans arrive.

But it’s a one-way trip for all involved: Once on Mars, there’s no coming back.

I'd go if I didn't have to take a lifetime's supply of the medicine I need :-(

Seriously though, I'd put myself up for that.

Probably too old tbh but... I have no dependents and it's chance to make sodding history, why wouldn't I?

If:
A) I had a terminal illness, and
B) it was to the moon
I'd go.
Why go to Mars? There'd be no cool view of Earth to die in front of.

I absolutely implore then to run a recruitment campaign using the slogan 'Get your ass to Mars.'

Transit of Earth, not many people around who've witnessed that.

I would go in an instant.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Transit of Earth,

Sometimes Earth only grazes the Sun during a transit. In this case it is possible that in some areas of Mars a full transit can be seen while in other regions there is only a partial transit (no second or third contact). The last transit of this type was on 30 April 1211, and the next such transit will occur on 27 November 4356.
Something to look forward to on my 2375th birthday! 8-)

If it wasn't a TV show recruiting the final voyagers, I'd apply for this in a heartbeat.
