Quote:
1) It would have to be good science fiction
2) It would have to be good television (rarely are scifi shows both)
3) It would have to take an adult approach to scifi and attempt to do for scifi television what Hill Street Blues did for cop shows
4) It would have to be affordable
5) It would have to look unlike anything ever seen before on TV
6) It would present not just individual stories but present those stories against a much broader canvas

I like the idea of the trapdoors, and I'm very happy that the double trapdoor happened in that one instance.

it missed point 7.

7. everything must be able to be charged against the show, no matter how spurious the reason to ensure no profit is ever made.

I don't think the show was created with that in mind.
Sadly, it seems to have evolved to that after the show was over, but I really don't think JMS went in to it thinking his show should be used as as financial scapegoat for the rest of the black hole shows that got produced after it.

This thread is annoying, as whilst the article was interesting, I had some hope of a revival in mind :(

I know what you mean.

Having thought about it though, several key cast members have died so unless they were going to do B5 The Next Generation or re-imagine the whole thing it would be very tricky (and I'm not sure I actually like those other ideas either).

A reboot with new cast is probably the best option. Though too long has past for many of the old cast to appear as themselves. Though maybe we could see them back as regulars as other characters?

It'll be back eventually in some form, you know it will. Assuming the write-offs don't require it staying dead I spose

Possibly a prequel might be good, or a spin off covering life in the universe from a non-B5 angle.

The main series ended properly though. An "age of man" story would be uninteresting by comparison.

They could cover the run up to the building of the B5 station, the Battle of the Line and the much more. Then do a reboot of the B5 series with different episodes but maintaining the same story arc.

This has all been done.
Some of it during the shows initial run, and some of it in the tele movies that came after.

The initial show was so tightly looked after by its creator that there's really very little in the universe that got mentioned that wasn't expanded upon to the point that doing anything more with it would simply make it redundant.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I think that you will find that Babylon 5 was rated the best Scifi series of all time.
