SciFi films that show "The Future" as being a date that has already been and gone now make me smile...

Still just under 7 years to go for Blade Runner.

Indeed, "futures passed" I like to call them.

Unfortunately I can't see flying cabs any time soon. Unless we suddenly master gravity. Anti-gravity would be a real game changer, and I guess maybe we're in the right direction with the Higgs thing.

I think this topic needs it's own thread.

Having just been down to the video shop I noticed that The Postman was set in 2013.

2000AD was set up when 2000 was a futuristic space year.

Dan Dare stories were set in the late 1990s.

And yet nobody's mentioned 1984, oh, wait …

I think Predator 2 'happened' in 1997.

Judgement Day remains viable

Knight Rider 2000 and Knight Rider 2010 both have happened. We don't cryogenically freeze criminals and we don't live in a post-apocalyptic world.

We've still got a way to go before Stallone gets thawed out and starts fighting Wesley Snipes. Also, we don't call them Murder Death Kills yet.

Two and a bit more years before I can order my hover board though! Can't wait! Although I'll be avoiding the ones made by Mattel. I want more POWER!

How is the development of the three shells going?

A good friend of mine on emigrating to Japan, left me as custodian of his vast collection of Scifi books. I've been gradually work my way through them...

I've just finished "Spinneret" by Timothy Zahn, first published in 1985 and opening at the start of 2016 with the launch of the first inter-stellar spaceship. Going from where space travel was back in the early 80s to having a working fully manned inter-stellar ship in just over 30 years seems more than somewhat optimistic.
