Domestic intruder alarms !

We need to get a system fitted. It's not as if we live in a particularly dangerous location but we are doing a lot of home improvements and decorating at the moment so I thought now's the time. All surrounding houses have alarms systems and to all intents and purposes we might as well have a neon sign saying "Burgle THIS house" in our garden.

Soooooo... any tips or advice from people regarding what type of system to get before either going DIY or getting a suppplier in ? I'd like to know what I'm talking about before having someone come to pitch for a sale. Wired or wireless systems ? Dummy bell boxes ?

Any information would be gratefully accepted guys.

Paul.

I saw a program a while ago, they had an ex-burglar on, and he said the alarm box things on the outside won't bother a determined thief, only the oppourtunstic yobs. I can't remember what he recommended, but a dummy alarm box may help, and other than a 5-ft electric fence with armed guards patrolling 24/7, I'm not sure yet..

You know what? That might just work!

No, really... it's confuse the hell out of the would be burglars, and would be even better if you had a picture of a BFG underneath the sign :P

No...? Ok ;)
