Just had a phone call from the wife. A friend where she works has been handed an unwanted cat, and she and her friends can’t keep it. Do we want another cat? Well, judging by the tone of the phone call, it’s not a case of consulting me about it, more a case of making me think it was my idea to take it in. So we’re getting a female tabby called Lola. ![]() Fun and games in getting our existing two to accept the newcomer will ensure soon. Xena will have her nose well and truly put out of joint for a while (she spends most of her time channelling Queen Elizabeth I). They’ll adjust - they were here first, and they’ll certainly want to put the new cat in her place. |

No matter what they say cats always get used to living together and even become friends. Years ago I had a silver tabby that I rescued and was told she didn't like other cats. Well she happily lived with 3 other adults. Also my cats nose was put out of joint when we got the kitten about 5 years ago. They're best friends now although she still moans as if to say 'leave me alone' when baby wants to play. Enjoy and pictures please! ![]() |

Pictures will happen when the cat gets here. I’m not sure if it will be today, tomorrow or sometime over the weekend. I’ve got cats integrated into a unit before. I know our current two will be rather grumpy about it to start off with. |

It's usually a good idea to have food, water and litter facilities in a small area to start off. I used to keep my newcomers in a separate room for a bit until they calmed down. |

That's the plane. Last time, we introduced the kittens to established cat by taking them downstairs in a basket, and et him swear at them for a bit. After a few days, we opened the basket and let them mingle. Still lots of swearing (and an attempt by Xena to give him what for despite being about a fifth the size), but eventually they settled down. The trick seems to be to take new cat to the established cat(s) in a container, and give established cats a lot of attention during and after. |

Well, the cat is here, but hiding under a bed. We'll leave her there to chill. She's been sleeping rough for a few weeks after the people who were looking after her just upped sticks and left. I've tried cat playing piano on the iPad videos with the current cats, but with little success. Maybe this one will be more compliant. |

I still remember when my parents got their last cat (early 90's). She ran up the chimney. When my dad pulled her down she pissed all over him. ![]() She bacame less scared over time, but she never was a fussy cat and was weary of men in general. |

I had a friend who had a cat that hated men. It would run away from her boyfriend even after a couple of years of them being together. On a visit while I was staying with her that she went to work, and I was alone with the cat. By the time she returned the cat was lying in its bad allowing me to stroke its belly. She was stunned that the cat was seemingly happy and was on my lap. |

There may well have been a specific reason the cat did not like this particular bloke, and was a bit weary in general. Mine's now a cuddle-whore despite being very timid when I first got her. Her previous owner maltreated her. If he comes near, she'll still hide under the bed I expect. |

Very possible. My neighbours cat would meow outside my door to get let in, and so many people would knock on my door saying your cat wants to come in. As soon as I opened the door the cat would walk in and as the person was explaining the cat would settle in. I had to explain that the cat was someone else's but like visiting me. In fact the old woman whose cat it was thought I was trying to steal her cat. So even though I was not providing the cat with food or drink the cat, or allowed to, would spend hours with me. |
