Anyone been?

One of my closest mates just got engaged. Planning on wedding and stag do some time next year. We used to play a lot of poker. He wants the stag in Vegas.

Now whilst I've been to the Caribbean, I've never been to America, let alone Vegas.

Any tips or pointers?

Don't eat the seafood buffet.
Wear a watch. Check it frequently.
Split aces.
Double down on 11.

I guess that's generally good advice, along with "don't knife your friends in the kidney"

I've been for a couple of days, it was just a stopover en route to somewhere else. I can't understand why people go there more more than that length of time but then I'm not interested in gambling as such. The food was plentiful and cheap though and the hotel featured good live music in the evenings. It's worth having a look at the hotels (especially in the evening) as they are quite unique. You can get a great view from the top of the Stratosphere Hotel at 1,149 feet and they have a small rollercoaster up there too.

Everybody needs to go once for a couple of days, but no more than that.

As others have said go and look at all the hotels, because they are gloriously splendid in their American tackiness.

If you aren't interested in gambling then the attraction will soon run out though.

Lived in MT for 4 years and went to Vegas quite regularly (cheap flights from Billings) my top tips would be:
- Don't bet unless you don't mind losing
- The house always wins in the end
- Don't even joke about counting cards
- Try to find somewhere on a rooftop to look at the lights at least one night
- Take a walk down the strip to find places to eat and party, look at the pretty, pretty hotels
- (Depending on the time of year) take suncream

America in general.
The price you see isn't the price you pay.
They never include tax in the displayed prices like we do here.
Eg. A menu price:
Here it's £10 inc VAT.
The it's $10 plus tax.
