Dear granny is in her eighties and has reached that part of her life where she spends as much time in and out of hospitals as she does at home. She's always been a modest woman and hates anything extravagant etc being spent on her. I've suggested a meal out for the entire family but just wondering if there are any gift ideas. Suggestions please. |

Whisky and cigarettes. That's what the 86 year old I sat next to at a wedding dinner last week was into. |

She doesn't drink or smoke. I'm thinking that if it's a material object, it'd need to be something she could use for remaining time (possibly months), or something she'd cherish. |

a usb electronic frame thing where you can load photos? My mum really liked having that with her when she went to hospital. |

My grandma wanted very little at that age. No birthday presents, and Christmas had to be consumables. I always got her a selection of teas from Wittards. She liked those, and they gave her something to share with her friends over the year. |

How about a nice cashmere shawl which she can wear in bed - either at home or in hospital |

Why not a CD? There are lots of CD's covering acts that she might have liked when she was younger. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. |

One of the presents that both sets of grandparents certainly seemed to cherish was a photo colage that my Mum made for each of them. Lots of photos of the grandkids stuck together in a frame. |

Is she averse to gadgets? Kindle Paperwhite? Magazine or newspaper subscription? Day out somewhere? Bringing some friends to her for a day out maybe? |

She's tech-averse. The most techie thing she can do is work the sky box to show her favourite channel. A digital photo frame sounds like a promising idea but I think it would be awesome to get photos of all of her family on there, which would be difficult to organise in such a short time. May do it any way. In some ways, she's very set in her ways - drinks tea only if made her way, doesn't drink/smoke. Never known her to be in to music. |

Starts rounding up photos already? It could be useful anyway? |

Is there anywhere that she might like to visit? Maybe the theatre or similar? |
