A video of Yorkshire actor Patrick Stewart reciting a poem in his native dialect has gone viral on the internet.
And the clip from BBC series Town, with Nicholas Crane, has bamboozled fans around the world, who are more used to seeing the Mirfield-born actor playing Shakespearean roles or as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I'm pretty good with accents, and even I was struggling to understand him there.

Some parts of Scotland are worse. People assume Glaswegean is hard. It isn't. But some of the accents from further up the west coast are. Even after thirteen years offshore, I still struggle with some west coast accents.

I was trying to find a video clip of some Scottish islanders being interviewed by an American and it was unintelligible.
