(Splitting off from Random sh*t as it will probably be culled soon)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542697

I'm developing an app to allow users to query HUKD from their mobile (over using the mobile website as a quicker and should be less bandwidth intensive & skin to windows mobile also)

So far completed:
Start screen
Deal filtering fields

To finish:
Compiling the http request and managing the return

To do:
Outputting the returned xml

I know bally, BigD and JV (If I make a build to run on the Omnia) are interested in testing/getting the beta (there really shouldn't be much to go wrong but I am defensively coding anyway to be safe)

If anyone else is bung your name in here and I'll drop you a pm when I finish the first iteration (will probably be 2 or 3 versions in 'beta' making feedback changes etc)

Starter screenshot:

That is on a VGA resolution, just tried it on 240x400 res (suitable for omnia) and it works, but some of the small font is hard to read...but most of it is readable, need to clean up the formatting on the form as it's a bit wonky though

I'm looking at changing to 6.5 dev platform as touch gestures will be easier to implement :)

I'm ALMOST there guys, I have got to sort out the xml still and embed a browser in a new window to show more details on a deal... or I will sort out my own way around it :)

And another teaser screenshot, I have added support for tags :)
Image

Unfortunately you can only use 2 words as anything non alphanumeric is converted to '-' or the API wont recognise it but i'm working around it so you can use as many tags as you want :D (Just fixed this actually)

So I have the returned data to sort then it should be go :) I am going to add a 3rd screen where you can get more details on an individual deal (and load in an image of the product)

That is on a 240x400 screen so an Omnia should be fine :)

Version 1 finished

Download:
http://rapidshare.com/files/274001751/HotUKDealsInstaller.zip
Download the zip file, you need to install the net 3.5 Compact framework to be able to use it

(Installer is a bit hobbled right now, need to load from program files>HotUKDeals on the device memory, will work on this to fix)

Known issues:
Speed (will work on next fix)
Bandwidth requirements (will work on in next fix due to large numbers of results depending on what you search for.... this impacts speed also)
Installer fixes needed, so the registry is properly added, can access from the programs menu instead of having to navigate to the folder
Add an uninstaller (atm just delete the file if you want to remove it)
Please link to this thread instead of hotlinking if you wish to share with others please :)

I'll test it when I get home to fast wifi. This one sucks here, and 3G costs a bomb.

Wifi should work, I only tested it over 3g as that is how I imagine it would get the most use

Right, finally got round to putting it on my phone, downloaded it a couple of days ago.

Seems to work fine here. Albeit a little slow, but yeah runs fine on a 640x480 XDA Zest (WM6.1)

Nice work :D

i seem to get problems on my phone, some times it just flies, other times it grinds to a halt, what i might do is store a local file so it only looks for new deals every 5 mins say, then it saves to a local document and stores it in there.

It's not a memory intensive app, I saw at most 1mb of ram needed... Cound be cpu intensive but on the emulator it was fine... i think it may be a problem with how I have done it or the API I need to look into it as I know the perf can be a killer sometimes

I'll try and download it when I get home, as web access is restricted at work.
