Normally, I'd wait until things had panned out a little and maybe the first SP was out of the way, but that seems bloody cheap, no? Full retail money is £180 and there's no OEM pricing yet. My last OEM copy of XP cost £85ish.

Anyone else thinking about it, or pre-ordered already?

I ordered a copy from dixons.co.uk for a tenner less and as its the full monty ie its the full product, there should be no monkeying around if re-install are neccessary.

I pre-ordered 7 last month

Bear in mind it WILL be the upgrade one now, as the E edition has been scrapped

I've got several copies of Win 7 Pro on order (£80!), I intend to hold on to the spares and then flog them for a profit. ;)

+1, MS can forget it otherwise.

So does this mean they're dropping back to just having Pro/Home editions then? I've really not been following the whole Windows 7 thing, I guess in part due to a lack of a suitable machine to run the betas on.

Thanks Caz, but I'll managed without ;)

Fin, how do you know about the upgrade situation? I've just read this:
http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/08/01/microsoft-kills-windows-7-e-editions.aspx
and I'm now unsure what to do. I don't need 7 now, but I don't wanna miss out on a blinding price for a full retail. If it's just an upgrade, I'm not interested.

Internal dialogue of that 72%:
“Oh wow, that looks nice. Oh dear, I've got the wrong computer for it. I'll have to settle for something else.” ;)

Did you read the link you posted?

Quote:
Those who pre-ordered Windows 7 "E" through a recent discount offer will get the full version, as Microsoft had promised. However, Microsoft plans to now sell Windows 7 upgrades in Europe and also offer a higher-priced full version (for those without an earlier copy of Windows)--similar to what it is doing in the rest of the world.

I was pointing it out as some of the new pre-orders might not be retail, so take screenshots etc when you order if it says full version

No, you ordered it.

You didn't reserve the option to order it, you ordered it.

Simples.

Well I did actually as I can cancel my 'pre-order' at any time up to release without penalty, and as my card hasn't been charged there is no acceptance of contract with the supplier so is not an official order as such :)
