http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26504696 I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
I see the IoT as a load of marketing BS that should people fall for it will enable even creepier intrusion into their lives than at present. The benefits to society at large will be utterly meaningless in comparison and this is just setting the scene. Data theft will have a totally new angle because it'll be 'legal', or seen as not worth worrying about. Christ, straight-up theft via an easy router attack... But hey, call it 'metadata' - Joe Soap won't have a clue about why his insurance premiums are going up! |

Yes peoples life insurance climbing because the insurance company has scanned the contents of your fridge will not be popular. I think the politicians are forgetting the privacy scandals that could put paid to this technology. |

We can't secure the internet with powerful devices that can run security software and now we want to put underpowered devices with no security on the internet. Count me out; I don't need it and I don't want it. |

Am I the only person here who, when he sees the name Gartner, immediately thinks, "Well that'll never happen then"? |

Perhaps they'd be better off researching the probability of us having IPv6 fully implemented by 2020, that might affect this prediction somewhat. |

There’s certainly been a lot of chatter from analysts about it. |

Last thing I heard, BT let their IPv6 security certificate expire and nobody noticed for 3 weeks. So not very well I'm guessing. |
