Most people that I know don't care/know/understand what Blu-Ray is, so I'm curious as to how many people here would buy a player at £50 - apparently the 'sweet spot' for increased sales is £100, but I suspect BR might struggle even there  I personally wouldn't buy one (even at £50) as I'm lacking an HD TV for one thing  , and I'd probably just buy a PS3 come the time even if I was fussed on HD films, which I'm not especially  You can change your vote later on if need be

I've got one anyway and paid a lot more than your "sweetspot" for it. Although if you don't have a hdtv there's no point. It's not quite the same upgrade as VHS to DVD so until it's Tesco Value cheap (including films) it won't be widely adopted |

I would if it was a good brand and well-known/highly rated model. But otherwise no. Besides, my PS3 is more than enough for my needs currently. If I didn't have a PS3, then I'd go for a unit that could record to HDD with a DVD burner and BR player built in for say £300. |

TBH I saw a nice Samsung model for £150, and if I didn't already have the PS3 and PC complete with Blu-ray drive I would have bought it. |

I have a HD TV, but it's not HDCP compliant so I will never buy blue ray until they do away with the god damned stupid idiotic counter-productive arse up [LIFTED] system that means I can't actually watch them. Of course, I still have the choice to illegally watch any of a million HD films I can easily download from you know where for free. If I did chose to do so, it would be the retarded DRM forcing my choice. F*cking idiots. |

Depends on the movies available on BR. Probably not, as most of the things I want to watch are on DVD. |

The US have had their first sub $100 BD players in stores... I wouldn't buy. I don't have an HD TV, so not much use. I also got "caught" with DVD, I have over 1000 discs and I'm not going to start collecting again. I'll stick with DVD and move to streaming TV, probably. |

Not as they currently stand. For several reasons 1) Load times for a good player are over two minutes (or so I recently heard). A £50 player would no doubt be longer. 2) Cheap DVD players have given me a lot of grief in the past. Cheap BR could be a bag of hurt. 3) The disks are very expensive compared to DVD the difference in quality over a good upscaled DVD would not be worth it to me. 4) I am planning to move away from discs as my shelves are full. 1. I've heard that too, can anyone here shed any light on it? 2. I've never had any problems with cheap DVD players, sometimes they were better and easier to operate than Sony kit, for instance.  3. That's my view from what I've seen also. 4. I can always find more space and I'd like to 'own' what I've bought

I've been using a sony player at work, it takes 30 seconds to load Wall E, I'd have thought this problem will be eliminate din the future. |

My thought is that bluray will not become widespread until the price of disks generally drops below £15. Will have to be closer to dvd costs. As bluray players also upscale dvds the legacy collections should still be playable. Most of my dvds are on the server anyway. |

If you have a HD TV then yes, if not then why bother? Blu Ray discs are cheap at Play, around £15 average. I doubt I would re-buy films I already have DVDs of on Blu Ray (except for Star Wars maybe). Although upscalers can be good....PS3 for example....it will never look as good as a proper Blu Ray disc. Having said that, increased resolution only increases the risk for disappointment. For example, I am loathe to buy 2001:ASO on Blu Ray as LCD TVs are notoriously bad at displaying ranges of black, so that film would have a lot of banding on it no doubt. A £50 player will only increase that risk; it would be the equivalent of buying a £10 DVD player from Tesco, a false economy. |
