Hi, I'll make this quick. We want to purchase a DVD/HDD recorder in work and my boss would like to know tomorrow which one we want. Now, there's no point being too specific, because our choice is limited to the Argos catalogue.

I do however have ONE question. My Sony model doesn't have "Resume" on the DVD and with the kids swapping discs all the time, it is a complete and utter pain in the RRRRs. I have one disc that takes almost five minutes before I can watch the film and if the disc is taken out, I have to start all over again. This situation is not ideal in work either, where a number of us might watch different discs over the course of a few shifts.

So, can anyone tell me of a DVD/HDD make that usually has Resume? I have it on both my Phillips and JVC DVD player, but I have no guarantee that their recorders have the same ability.

Thanks for any help.

Freeview? Freesat?
HD Tuner?
HDMI/component output?

All I want to know is- in your experience (whoever you are) which DVD recorders do, or don't, have Resume.

I admit I was surprised- and very disappointed- to find that there are any out there without this feature. I'm guessing that if one Sony doesn't have it, then none of them do. Ditto either way for other makes.

Fair enough, Finlay, but if I'd wanted Freesat, which is a whole area that I have yet to get into at home, I might have said.

To me, as noted, I would have thought that all makes (except the cheap sh**e) would have it, but they apparently don't and as you note, there is inconsistency between models from the same maker.

I was a bit shocked at how expensive they (still) are. One model in particular from Sony was £229 for the cheapest and £479 for the dearest and the difference as far as I could see was a 500GB HDD instead of a 160GB one- real world price difference of £20 MAX!

We opted for a £200 Samsung, which was just about the cheapest of the decent makes.

Thanks for your time, Fin. I appreciate the information.
