Post subject: | Sparky advice needed please |
(Sorry in advance if this is not really a Meeting place sort of question) I have a tandem garage (two garage lengths long), I have a light switch by the up and over door and want to add another switch by the door at the back of the garage. At the same time I also want to replace the one light socket with two tube lights to spread the light along the long garage so I can work on my bike etc at night. I’m fairly DIY friendly but just need a wiring diagram if someone can do me one please. If anyone can help I would be most grateful cheers |

You'll need a double pole light switch but the rest is fairly easy. |

Judging from the previous owner of this place, you'll also need loads of electricians tape to wrap around the twisted joins you'll be making. Also, you might want to think about splitting a cable and twisting in another section of cable for no apparent reason. While you're at it, consider wiring an electric shower into the lighting circuit, and hooking your TV aerial booster into the lighting circuit as well. Remember, if you can manage all that, then why not turn your hand to gas plumbing? |

I'm no electrician but here goes... Damn, can't upload to flickr at work ![]() Anyway, 2 switches one at top one at bottom with 2 poles. Parallel lines between poles to connect the swicthes. Half way down lines put light bulb across to connect the parallel lines. You may need some sort of resistor to take the load when the lights are off (that would work with a battery, don't know about mains stuff though). |

lol... sounds like my first house I purchased back in the early 90s, it had a 8 track stereo system in the loft hooked up to some sort of monitoring system that was wired around the house and into a load of bakelite junction boxes that had started to smolder causing a nasty smell and make the electrics around the house do strange things.... took me ages to remove it all and repair. I have no idea what it did or what they had tried to do with it. |
