I just got contacted by one via LinkedIn. It’s kind of local to me - a few minutes up the A12. They wanted to know if I was interested in a web design job they were filling. I expect I am not the only one they contacted, but I think I need to give it a bit of thought.

I’ve never dealt with an employment agency before (I am wholly unprepared for anything of this nature (I have, for example, no CV on file - I have never needed one) - most of my work comes from referrals and repeat business) - so I’m not really sure what the deal could be. Will they be constantly badgering me, even if the job is not what I’d be interested in?

Basically a list of pitfalls and plusses would be handy to help me decide if I should follow it up.

They will get bored of you if you don't like any of their jobs or follow anything up, so there shouldn't be any harm.

I used to work in one years ago.

Shockwaffle is right. They only care about making commission. If you have potential to help them do that, or bare minimum, make them look good they'll be interested in you and may help you secure employment.

Otherwise, you're a waste of their time.

From my and my friends past experience with agencies I have to say that its generally been very poor

They often badger you with jobs that are may out of your skill set as in the end they are chasing their commission

Now this agency maybe different but....that has been my experience with agencies in general

Outsourced parasites the whole lot of them. A bunch of witches always looking out for the next broom upgrade at your expense.

Most of the agencies I used to use ever showed any interest in giving me any work at all. Complete waste of time.
