Good evening all - some good news to (finally) share... work are planning on sending me to Australia to work for 6 months on our projects out there! ![]() The thing is, being forever pecimistic, I have held back on my enthusiasm so far to maintain some degree of control over the whole affair - and have these last couple of days decided the best way to approach a number of questions I have (for which answers have yet to be volunteered) with a letter and a formal meeting with my director - with whom I have a fairly amicable relationship with. And so I thought, what better a sounding board and resource for suggestions on how to approach than here! ![]()
Any comments will be greatly welcomed... Cheers! |

Congrats on the news. My uncle went from England -> Switzerland -> Australia. He likes the last one the most. Just enjoy yourself while you are there. You only live once. |

![]() But since this will act as an agenda for our meeting, I though best if I didn't throw all my toys out of my pram in the first instance and not get the answers I want - because raise or not - I'm still quite keen on going. |

Oh, I think you'll really enjoy Australia. It's got all the problems the UK has, and they're not nearly as tolerant as we are. Good luck. |

Is this why Snowys surname is porter? as he gets "ported" through random places? ![]() |

That's correct Bratty, because we each get a surname granted to us depending on what will happen in our lives, look at Wordsworth. |

Good news! I think six months is pretty perfect!! If you don't like it from the start (for whatever reason) as happened to me in New Zealand then it's not too long a time to just make the most of knowing you can head home soon. As for all the surname stuff, mine is Jennings. What does that mean?? I went to primary school with a lad called hoare. I was too young to know what it meant but I saw his name in the photo recently and I gol'd (giggled out loud ![]() |

I'd leave the pay increase until the end, not because of the pram thing, but to keep it low profile. You want to show enthusiasm for the job and not come across as just money grubbing... I think you'll love it. I certainly liked working abroad so much, I stayed. ![]() |
