So today may or may not be my last day at work.

We were told three weeks ago that the company needed to get rid of people for reasons I can't really go into.

Anyway, I took the offer to leave (with a pay out) and "the end of December" was mentioned.

Then I didn't hear anything.

Yesterday I spoke to my boss who hadn't actually done anything about arranging stuff. The payout was going to be just as a wage instead of a redundancy pay (redundancy pay is not tax deductible) so I'd lose about 40% of it. They were not going to put it through as a redundancy, just as a resignation from me.

Not heard anything since we spoke yesterday. I've got holiday booked now until the end of the year so I'm not sure now if I'm coming back in January or not.

At the moment I have no idea what is going on at work. Which doesn't surprise me as that seems to have been the trend for the past 12-18 months.

Ugh :(

Try not to let it ruin your holiday, though. Without wishing to sound dismissive, there's nothing you can do about it and worrying about will only serve to stress you out.

Hope it all turns out ok.

Well they're not getting rid as much as I'm leaving (ish) but I'll be able to move on to better things :D

Have you considered getting some external advice? From your description it sounds dodgy as hell and like they're trying to pull a fast one.
ACAS helpline might be a good place to start.

It sounds like he's getting stuff sorted. If it isn't sorted I'll definitely be getting some external help.

The main thing for me is the tax thing. It's a significant chunk out of what was offered.

This. If you have a contract of employment and they want rid then they surely have to make you redundant with relevant payouts?

This. Get your ass to CAB or an employment solicitor. If they are getting rid of you and your role isn't being made redundant then it has to be done through a severe nice agreement, which both of you have to agree to. If it's redundancy then there are loads of legal obligations they have to follow. Don't allow them to stiff you out of what you are entitled to.

Depends on how you want to leave things. If you're ready to burn bridges, make a huge fuss, go to ACAS/CAB and get some advice.

If they put it through as you quitting rather than redundancy, you can't claim job seekers allowance.

It's more than 40% when you consider student loan contributions etc. I'd head down the CAB when you get a chance, sucks to hear the place is laying off staff.

Worth talking to anyone else that has taken the offer to see if they are in a similar position

Well. Everything is sorted now. They've done it all by the book and I'm actually better off than I thought. Gives me a decent amount of time to explore different opportunities and stuff :-)
