Am looking at a security camera set up. Camera facing front of the house/door/driveway. Camera facing rear, covering garden. Set up to record 24/7 to say a NAS. Now most network enabled cameras should be capable of this. But i also would love the ability to check who's at the door without having to get out of bed eg via TV. Also thinking about whether to have an alarm system tied in that texts/emails when the alarm goes off. Any suggestions? |

I think I may be looking at two camera systems, one network enabled and permanently recording, and the other essentially CCTV without any recording. |

A network webcam recording to a nas (synology & qnap offer this) with a laptop to view it would work. Or a stand alone cctv system |

If you use a NVR (network video recorder) many have hdmi ports as well as built in web servers - this would allow you to view either over a tv (or multiple tvs with an hdmi matrix) or view from a web browser. Thanks guys. I have a Synology NAS. It came with a free 1-cam license and I was looking to add another one so I could have more cams. At work, we have Y-cam cameras networked to a nas but they're internal cameras. Never thought about a dedicated recorder. Makes more sense and means I could have a separate set up with cams and say NVR with its own back up facility. I've had a brief read of CCTV stuff and it's interesting to see what's out there. I'm now leaning more towards say two dome cameras for general viewing of front and back gardens, with at least a front door hidden cam for seeing faces. Maybe one for the back. Hooked up to a 4 channel (or maybe 8 for future expansion) NVR, with a UPS supply and maybe the ability to store to a connected NAS/RAID. |
